Both of these Mercedes-Benz SUVs are available with several well-designed engine options. The GLE's base powertrain is a turbo four-cylinder system that produces 255 horsepower. There is also a mild-hybrid, turbo V6 that offers 483 horsepower. Two other gas engines are available: a 429-horsepower turbo V6 and a 603-horsepower turbo V8. In the GLS, the base engine is a turbo V6 that gives you 362 horsepower. Two additional engines are offered in higher trim levels. These are a twin-turbo V8 that offers you 483 horsepower and a twin-turbo V8 that produces 603 horsepower.


The GLE and the GLS SUVs are siblings in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, so they share several design elements, including their grille shape and overall stance. The GLE's grille is accented by vertical bars, flanked by confident headlights with curved LED light bars. On the sides, the GLE has a crisp personality bar on the lower panels and deep contouring through the center of the doors. The GLS has a pair of horizontal bars running through the grille. The nose also has a large skid plate and bold headlights topped by LED light bars. The sides and hood are minimally defined for a sophisticated look.
